How long a website takes

Real timelines from live projects, step by step, and the few things that decide whether a site launches in days or drags on for months.

7 to 21 daysfrom signed agreement to launch for most small business sites

Short answer

A small business website usually takes 2 to 3 weeks from a signed agreement to launch. At Chamberlin Design most sites go live in 7 to 21 days: about two days to build the first version, then a few rounds of revisions. Spiritual Wings Coaching was rebuilt and live in one day, and Fixed Ops Roundtable, a full platform, went from signed to live in 21 days.

Step by step

The timeline.

What a typical project looks like at Chamberlin Design.

  1. 01Conversation

Phone, video or in person. What the business does, who the customers are and what the site needs to do.

  2. 02Demo and proposal

A working demo and a line-item proposal, so you see the site before you commit.

  3. 03Build

A basic marketing site takes about two days to build once the proposal is signed and content is in.

  4. 04Revisions

Two to three days of revisions, more for larger sites, until it is right.

  5. 05Launch

Go live on your domain, submit to Google and Bing, and check everything on real phones.

What keeps it fast

Four things that help.

The build is rarely what decides the timeline. These are.

  • Content ready

Your logo, photos and the basics about each service, even rough notes, before the build starts.

  • One decision-maker

One person who can say yes to revisions keeps rounds short.

  • Quick feedback

Replies within a day or two on each round of revisions.

  • Domain access

Login details for wherever your domain is registered, so launch day has no surprises.

The thing that decides the timeline is almost never the build. It is how fast content and feedback come back. When a client has their photos and words ready, a site can go live in days. Spiritual Wings Coaching was rebuilt and live the same day.

Questions

Can you build a website in a week?

Yes, for many small business sites. Rush options are available and estimated once the project is scoped. Spiritual Wings Motivation went live three days after the build started.

Why do some agencies quote months?

Larger agencies often run longer discovery phases, more review layers and bigger teams. That can make sense for very large sites. For most small businesses, a focused build with one developer and quick feedback goes much faster.

What do I need to have ready?

Your logo, photos if you have them, a list of services and anything you like or do not like on other sites. Rough notes are fine. The words can be written for you.

Does a faster build mean lower quality?

Not here. The sites in the table above score 96 to 100 on Google Lighthouse on desktop, and every site ships with the search setup, legal pages and an accessibility pass.

How long until my new site shows up on Google?

Once the site is submitted in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, new pages are usually crawled within days. Rankings build over the weeks and months after.
